Description

AQUA BLOCK is a ready-to-use acrylic waterproofing mastic for brush-applied membranes.

Why the colour matters

The blue is quality control, not decoration. A brush-applied membrane only works as a continuous film, and one missed centimetre in a corner undoes the job. White mastic is hard to read on grey screed, especially on the second coat; a coloured film shows every miss before the tile goes down.

A super-elastic film

It bridges cracks and substrate movement: essential on balconies, terraces and roofs, where concrete works all year and any hairline crack in a rigid coating becomes a path for water.

UV-stable

Weather- and UV-resistant, so it can stay exposed on a roof or foundation instead of turning brittle in its first summer.

Where it is used

Roofs: felt, cement-sand, reinforced concrete; foundations and walls against soil; cellars; bathrooms, kitchens and showers; balconies and terraces; tanks and pools other than for drinking water.

Conditions

Acrylic, solvent-free. Apply at +5 to +35 °C, service -40 to +80 °C. It skins quickly; full cure takes 24–72 hours depending on thickness, temperature and humidity. 3 and 7 kg, 18-month shelf life, water clean-up.

Limits

The substrate must be dry. It resists water pressing onto it, not hydrostatic pressure from the ground side, and is not for drinking-water tanks.

How much you need

0.7–1.3 kg/m² over two solid 1 mm coats. Budget 1 kg/m².

  • 3 kg covers about 3 m²: a shower tray or a roof detail;
  • 7 kg covers about 7 m²: a bathroom floor with upstands, or a 3×2 m balcony.

Two or three coats are recommended. On exposed roofs and foundations a third coat is worth it: about 1.5 kg/m², for a markedly thicker film.

Consumption is higher than WATERBLOCK at 0.6–1.0 kg/m²: the price of the denser coloured film.

Application

Preparation

  • a dry, sound, dust-free substrate;
  • open out cracks and fill with the mastic;
  • prime weak surfaces;
  • substrate and air from +5 °C.

Application

  • stir, then brush, roll or trowel;
  • a solid first coat about 1 mm;
  • a second at right angles once the first has skinned;
  • a third on exposed roofs and foundations.

Using the colour

  • inspect each coat in raking light;
  • touch in anywhere the substrate shows through;
  • watch corners, abutments, pipes and gullies.

Then

  • full cure 24–72 hours;
  • tile or screed only when fully dry;
  • wash tools with water;
  • do not freeze; 18 months.

FAQ: colour, coats and roofs

  • Versus WATERBLOCK?
    Colour and coverage: blue shows misses but uses 0.7–1.3 against 0.6–1.0 kg/m². WATERBLOCK is white, tintable and rated to +100 °C against +80 °C here.

  • Can it stay exposed on a roof?
    Yes. It is UV- and weather-resistant.

  • How many coats?
    Two minimum, three on exposed roofs and foundations.

  • Pools?
    Yes, except drinking-water tanks.

  • Onto a damp screed?
    No. It needs a dry substrate or the film will blister.
