Description

WATERBLOCK waterproofing mastic is a high-quality one-component white acrylic paste.

400 % elasticity is the figure that matters

Waterproofing holds because it stretches, not because it is hard. Concrete and screed move, settle and crack; a rigid coating splits at the first crack and the water goes straight there. A membrane that stretches fourfold bridges an opening crack and stays intact.

15 years, and quieter too

A 15-year service life, with useful sound-deadening as a side effect: noticeable under bathroom tile and on a balcony above a living room.

Where it works

Waterproofing roof coverings: felt, cement-sand, reinforced concrete; bathroom and cellar surfaces; filling joints and cracks. And as a membrane under electric underfloor heating, where a leak means a short circuit rather than a stain.

Tintable

White but tintable, so on an exposed roof or balcony it can serve as the finish rather than a buried layer, and a light colour heats less in the sun.

Conditions

Apply at +10 to +35 °C, higher than most acrylics here; on a cold screed the film will not form. Service -40 to +100 °C. 1.2, 3, 6 and 12 kg, 18-month shelf life, water clean-up.

Limits

It works against water pressing onto it, not against hydrostatic pressure from the ground side, and it needs a dry substrate.

How much you need

0.6–1.0 kg/m² over two solid 1.5 mm coats. Budget 0.8 kg/m².

  • 1.2 kg covers about 1.5 m²: a shower tray or the area round a gully;
  • 3 kg covers about 4 m²: a bathroom floor;
  • 6 kg covers about 7.5 m²: a bathroom with upstands;
  • 12 kg covers about 15 m²: a balcony or small roof.

Do not forget the walls. Carry the membrane at least 20 cm up, and to shower-head height in the shower zone: for a 2×1.7 m room that adds about 3 m², nearly doubling the figure.

Application

Preparation

  • a dry, sound substrate free of dust and oil;
  • open out cracks and fill them with the mastic itself;
  • prime porous or friable surfaces;
  • substrate and air at +10 °C or above.

Application

  • stir, then brush, roll or trowel;
  • a solid first coat about 1.5 mm thick;
  • a second coat at right angles once the first is dry;
  • reinforce internal corners with tape bedded into the first coat.

Critical areas

  • the wall-to-floor junction;
  • around gullies and pipe outlets;
  • shower corners: these leak first, so build them thicker.

Then

  • check the film is continuous before tiling;
  • tile only after full drying;
  • wash tools with water;
  • do not freeze; 18 months.

FAQ: tiling over, cellars and coverage

  • Can it be tiled over?
    Yes. Membrane, flexible tile adhesive, tile, once the mastic has fully dried.

  • Hydrostatic pressure in a cellar?
    No; this works against water pressing onto it, not from the ground side.

  • How much for a 2×1.7 m bathroom?
    About 6.5 m² with upstands: 5–6 kg.

  • Under underfloor heating?
    Yes, that is a listed use.

  • Versus AQUA BLOCK?
    WATERBLOCK is white, tintable and uses less: 0.6–1.0 kg/m². AQUA BLOCK is blue and uses more, but the colour makes coverage easy to verify.
