DEKOMAL PF-115 is an alkyd enamel from the PROFESSIONAL line, for protecting primed wood and wood-based surfaces, metal and other substrates.
Its main use is whatever stands in the open: gazebos, benches, verandas, fences, outbuildings. The enamel's resistance to moisture prevents lifting and flaking: the protective film keeps the coating on the painted surface through rain and dew.
The second argument is ultraviolet resistance. The enamel does not dull or fade, so a red bench is still red after two seasons rather than pink. That is exactly where cheaper alkyds fail.
PF-115 is also used on plasterboard, brick and concrete, wherever a hard washable coating is wanted instead of paint: utility rooms, workshops, garages.
60–120 g/m² per coat, noticeably less than EXTRAMAL PF-115 at 100–150 g/m². On a large job the difference in tin price is eaten by the difference in consumption, so the figure to compare is cost per square metre, not per tin. Apply 1–2 coats, the second once the first is fully dry (no more than 24 hours). Bare timber is first primed with clear Drevozahyst impregnation or drying oil, unprotected metal with one coat of DEKOMAL GF-021; let the primer dry at least 24 hours before the enamel. Clean metal thoroughly of rust and paint it within 8–10 hours of cleaning. Repainting an existing sound coating needs no primer.
A ready range of 28 shades, from cream and beige to emerald, turquoise and black. Thinned with white spirit, solvent or a 1:1 mix, no more than 10% by volume. Air and substrate +5 to +30 °C, humidity no more than 60%. Packed in 0.9 kg, 2.7 kg and 22 kg; shelf life 24 months.
How much you need
90 g/m² per coat over two coats: 180 g/m² in total.
900 g covers about 5 m²: a bench, grilles, a small gate;
2.7 kg covers about 15 m²: a gazebo or a fence section;
22 kg covers about 120 m²: a fence around a plot.
Application
Preparing the surface
strip metal of rust and scale, sand timber;
remove flaking old coating;
degrease with white spirit;
prime the surface: the enamel is meant for primed substrates.
Thinning
thin with white spirit, solvent or a 1:1 mix if needed;
more for spraying, barely any for brushwork;
stir thoroughly before use.
Application
apply by brush, roller or spray;
1–2 coats depending on how contrasting the substrate is;
a coat takes up to 24 hours: plan the second for the next day.
After the job
clean tools with solvent straight away;
store tightly closed away from flame;
shelf life 24 months.
FAQ: substrates, drying and consumption
How does it differ from EXTRAMAL PF-115?
Service life (over 5 years against over 4) and consumption: 60–120 g/m² against 100–150. Per square metre DEKOMAL often works out no dearer.
Can it go straight over rust?
No, it needs an anti-corrosion primer: GF-021 from the same range, for instance. For bare rust use "Zahyst 3 v 1".
Why does it take a whole day to dry?
That is normal for alkyd PF enamels: the film hardens by oxidation rather than by water evaporating. The alkyd-urethane DEKOLUX dries in 3 hours.
Is it suitable for floors?
Floors take PF-266, which is built for abrasion. PF-115 wears through faster underfoot.
How much for 20 m of fencing?
A 1.5 m high section, both sides, is 60 m²; two coats need about 11 kg.
