Description

EXTRAMAL PF-115 is an alkyd enamel from the STANDARD line, for protecting primed wood and wood-based surfaces, metal and other substrates.

What it is bought for

This is the volume enamel for outdoor structures: gazebos, benches, verandas, fences, outbuildings. Its moisture resistance prevents lifting and flaking: the protective film holds the coating on the surface through rain and dew.

Not only wood and metal

It is also used on brick and concrete, wherever a hard washable coating is wanted: garages, workshops, storerooms and plinths.

The honest difference from DEKOMAL

Declared protection is over 4 years against over 5, and consumption is 100–150 g/m² against 60–120. That means roughly one and a half times more material for the same area. The tin is cheaper; the square metre is not necessarily. Before a large job, count both options in kilograms rather than tins.

When the choice is obvious

When there is a lot to paint and it is not meant to last forever: a shed, a temporary fence, a property being prepared for sale, the annual touch-up of yard benches. Where the coating is refreshed every few years anyway, paying more for a longer declared protection period buys nothing.

Colour and thinning

A ready range of 24 shades. Thinned with white spirit, solvent or a 1:1 mix, no more than 10% by volume. Apply 1–2 coats, the second once the first is fully dry (no more than 24 hours). Bare timber is first primed with clear Drevozahyst impregnation or drying oil, unprotected metal with one coat of EXTRAMAL GF-021; let the primer dry at least 24 hours before the enamel. Clean metal thoroughly of rust and paint it within 8–10 hours of cleaning. Air and substrate +5 to +30 °C, humidity no more than 60%. Shelf life 18 months.

How much you need

125 g/m² per coat over two coats: 250 g/m² in total.

  • 900 g covers about 3.6 m²: a bench or grilles;

  • 2.8 kg covers about 11 m²: a gazebo;

  • 22 kg covers about 88 m²: a perimeter fence.

Application

Preparing the surface

  • strip metal of rust and scale, sand timber;

  • remove flaking old coating;

  • degrease with white spirit;

  • prime the surface: the enamel is meant for primed substrates.

Thinning

  • thin with white spirit, solvent or a 1:1 mix if needed;

  • stir thoroughly before use.

Application

  • apply by brush, roller or spray;

  • 1–2 coats depending on how contrasting the substrate is;

  • a coat takes up to 24 hours: the second goes on the next day.

After the job

  • clean tools with solvent straight away;

  • store tightly closed away from flame;

  • shelf life 18 months.

FAQ: consumption, choice and drying

  • Which works out cheaper, this or DEKOMAL PF-115?
    Count in kilograms: this one uses 100–150 g/m², that one 60–120. Over a large area the difference in tin price often disappears.

  • Can it go straight over rust?
    No, it needs the GF-021 anti-corrosion primer. For bare rust use "Zahyst 3 v 1".

  • Is it suitable for floors?
    No. Floors take PF-266, which is built for abrasion.

  • How much for a gazebo?
    A frame and railings of about 20 m² need roughly 5 kg over two coats.

  • Why does it take a whole day to dry?
    An alkyd film hardens by oxidation. Alkyd-urethane enamels dry in 2–3 hours.
