Description

GRUNT EKO is an acrylic primer for preparing substrates before painting, wallpapering and decorative finishing, inside and outside buildings, including insulation systems.

What a primer does

Three things at once: it binds a surface that dusts or crumbles, it improves adhesion for the next coat, and it evens out the substrate's absorbency. The last directly cuts paint or render consumption: an unprimed wall drinks the first coat.

When the basic one is enough

It is the working choice for ordinary substrates in reasonable condition: concrete, prepared brickwork, rendered walls, and indoors plasterboard, gypsum and chipboard. If the surface is not coming away in handfuls and has no eroded patches, a deep-penetrating product is overkill and the result is the same.

When to choose something else

Friable render, old filler, eroded brick: those need a deep-penetrating primer that binds dust through the layer, not only on the surface. Decorative render calls for a keying primer with quartz filler.

Consumption and storage

The primer is ready to use and is not diluted. It goes on in a single coat, wetting the surface evenly, at 100–200 g/m². It dries in 1–2 hours depending on temperature, and paint can go on after 2 hours. Fresh cement and cement-lime plasters are primed after 3–4 weeks, concrete after a month. Packs of 5 and 10 kg, shelf life 18 months.

How much you need

150 g/m² in one coat over a prepared substrate.

  • 5 kg covers about 33 m²;

  • 10 kg covers about 67 m²;

  • allow 20–30 % extra on a porous substrate.

Application

Preparing the substrate

  • the substrate is dry, sound and clean: free of dust, grease and flaking coatings;

  • old chalk whitewash is removed completely;

  • fresh render needs at least 28 days.

Dilution

  • no dilution needed;

  • stir before work.

Application

  • apply by brush, roller or spray;

  • one even coat with no gaps;

  • application temperature +5…+30 °C.

Next

  • apply the next material once it has dried fully: a coat takes up to 2 hours;

  • rinse tools with water straight away;

  • store above freezing, do not let it freeze.

FAQ: choosing a primer and consumption

  • Can I paint without priming?
    The data sheets for POLIFARB interior and facade paints call for priming the prepared surface. The primer strengthens the substrate, improves paint adhesion and reduces paint consumption.

  • How does it differ from a deep-penetrating primer?
    They are used for the same jobs. The data sheets describe PROFI GRUNT and GRUNT CONCENTRATE 1:4 as deep-penetrating; GRUNT EKO's does not.

  • How much area does a 10 kg can cover?
    At 0.1–0.2 kg/m², 50–100 m² in one coat, depending on the substrate and application method.

  • How long does the primer take to dry?
    1–2 hours depending on temperature. Paint can go on after 2 hours.

  • Is it suitable under decorative plaster?
    Yes, the data sheet lists preparing substrates for decorative protective finishes.

  • Can it be used on a facade?
    Yes, it is for exterior and interior work, including external wall insulation systems.
