GRUNT CONCENTRATE 1:4 is a deep-penetrating acrylic primer supplied as a concentrate. It prepares substrates before painting, decorative finishing and filling, inside and outside buildings.
One litre is diluted with four of water, so a 2 L bottle makes 10 L of working solution. On a large site that changes the logistics: two bottles instead of ten cans of ready-mixed primer, and leftovers are easier to store. The standard dilution is 1:4 (1 part primer to 4 parts water); where needed, the surface can also be treated with the undiluted concentrate.
A primer does three things at once: it binds a surface that is dusting off, it improves adhesion for the next coat, and it evens out how much the substrate absorbs. That last one saves money directly: unprimed render drinks the first coat of paint, and two coats turn into three.
Concrete, prepared brickwork, rendered surfaces, insulation systems, and indoors only gypsum, plasterboard and chipboard.
100–200 g/m² in a single coat, and one coat is all it needs. It dries in 1–2 hours depending on temperature, and paint can go on after 2 hours. Fresh cement and cement-lime plasters are primed after 3–4 weeks, concrete after a month. The milky-white colour shows where you have already been, so nothing gets missed. Packs of 1 L and 2 L, shelf life 18 months.
How much you need
Consumption is counted on the working solution: 150 g/m² in one coat. The concentrate makes five times its own volume.
1 kg of concentrate → 5 kg of solution → about 33 m²;
2 kg of concentrate → 10 kg of solution → about 67 m²;
allow 20–30 % extra on a very porous substrate.
Application
Preparing the substrate
the substrate is dry, sound and clean: free of dust, grease and flaking coatings;
old chalk whitewash is removed completely: a primer will not bind it;
fresh render needs at least 28 days.
Dilution
dilute with clean water 1:4, one part concentrate to four parts water;
use a weaker ratio on a very porous substrate;
stir until uniform.
Application
apply by brush, roller or spray;
one coat, evenly, with no gaps: the milky colour shows the covered area;
application temperature +5…+30 °C.
Next
paint or fill after it has dried fully: a coat takes up to 2 hours;
rinse tools with water straight away;
store above freezing, do not let it freeze.
FAQ: dilution, consumption and substrates
How much water do I add?
Four parts water to one part concentrate. A 2 kg bottle makes 10 kg of working solution.
How much area does a 2 kg bottle cover?
About 67 m² in one coat at 150 g/m² of working solution.
Can it be used undiluted?
No. Undiluted concentrate forms a film on the surface that paint adheres to less well.
Will it bind old whitewash?
No. Chalk whitewash must be removed completely; primer will not hold on it.
How soon can I paint?
Once it has dried fully; a coat takes up to 2 hours.
