Description

PROFI GRUNT is a ready-to-use deep-penetrating acrylic primer. It prepares substrates before painting, wallpapering and decorative finishing, inside and outside buildings, and in insulation systems.

Ready mixed

The difference from a concentrate is that nothing has to be measured or mixed. Open the can and work. Where a crew primes fast and in quantity, that removes a step and rules out the mixing error that leaves the solution either too weak or too thick.

Deep penetration

The product goes into the body of the substrate rather than sitting on it as a film. The primer strengthens the surface and leaves a sound base for whatever comes next. Before priming, the substrate is thoroughly cleaned of deposits and dust, and remains of glue and lime paints are removed.

What it buys you

Better adhesion, lower consumption of everything applied after priming, and an even absorbency across the wall.

Which substrates

Concrete, prepared brickwork, rendered surfaces, insulation systems, and indoors only gypsum, plasterboard and chipboard. It goes on in a single coat, wetting the surface evenly; it dries in 1–2 hours depending on temperature, and paint can go on after 2 hours. Fresh cement and cement-lime plasters are primed after 3–4 weeks, concrete after a month. Milky white, in 5 and 10 kg packs. Shelf life is 18 months.

How much you need

150 g/m² in one coat over a prepared substrate.

  • 5 kg covers about 33 m²;

  • 10 kg covers about 67 m²;

  • a friable or very porous substrate takes 20–30 % more.

Application

Preparing the substrate

  • the substrate is dry, sound and clean: free of dust, grease and flaking coatings;

  • old chalk whitewash is removed completely: a primer will not bind it;

  • fresh render needs at least 28 days.

Dilution

  • no dilution needed: the primer is ready to use;

  • stir before work.

Application

  • apply by brush, roller or spray;

  • one even coat with no gaps;

  • application temperature +5…+35 °C.

Next

  • paint or fill after it has dried fully: a coat takes up to 2 hours;

  • rinse tools with water straight away;

  • store above freezing, do not let it freeze.

FAQ: when it is needed and how much

  • How does it differ from the 1:4 concentrate?
    PROFI GRUNT comes ready to use and is not diluted. GRUNT CONCENTRATE 1:4 is mixed with water 1:4 or applied neat. Both are deep-penetrating primers.

  • Is primer needed before wallpapering?
    Yes, the data sheet lists preparing the substrate for wallpaper. The primer strengthens the surface and improves adhesion.

  • How much area does a 10 kg can cover?
    At 0.1–0.2 kg/m², 50–100 m² in one coat, depending on the substrate and application method.

  • Can it be used on a facade?
    Yes, it is for interior and exterior work, including external wall insulation systems.

  • How many coats?
    One, wetting the surface evenly.

  • How long does the primer take to dry?
    1–2 hours depending on temperature. Paint can go on after 2 hours.

  • Can I paint without priming?
    The data sheets for POLIFARB interior and facade paints call for priming the prepared surface. The primer strengthens the substrate, improves paint adhesion and reduces paint consumption.
