SOLVENT 3 IN 1 is an organic solvent for working with POLIFARB enamels, including the "Zahyst 3 v 1" primer-enamels. It also suits polyurethane, alkyd, alkyd-urethane, alkyd-styrene, polyacrylate and phenolic coatings. Composition: a blend of aliphatic and aromatic solvents.
Three jobs in one product
First, thinning enamel to working viscosity: above all for spraying, where thick material simply will not pass the nozzle. Second, degreasing metal before painting: no enamel holds on a greasy surface, and the coating comes away with the film of oil. Third, cleaning brushes, rollers and the gun straight after the job.
Why water will not do
Alkyd and alkyd-urethane enamels are not water-dispersion products. Water does not mix with them: adding it ruins the batch, and it will not wash dried tools either. An organic solvent is what is needed.
How much to add
Exactly as much as the required viscosity needs, and no more: add the solvent in small portions while stirring vigorously. For the Zahyst 3 v 1 primer-enamel, no more than 10% by volume. The solvent does not impair the gloss or drying of the enamel.
Safety
The solvent is flammable and explosive and irritates the skin, eyes and airways. Work in a ventilated space at +5…+35 °C, wearing rubber gloves and a respirator, and keep away from naked flame. Store tightly closed away from heat at +5…+35 °C; do not freeze. Shelf life 24 months.
FAQ: thinning, degreasing and cleaning
Which paints is it for?
Mainly ZAKHYST 3 in 1 primer-enamels, including the hammer and pearl finishes. It also thins polyurethane, alkyd, alkyd-urethane, alkyd-styrene, polyacrylate and phenolic coatings. What thins alkyd paint?
An organic solvent. ROZCHYNNYK 3 in 1 thins alkyd coatings, and the ZAKHYST 3 in 1 data sheet names it or solvent naphtha. For PF-115 and PF-266 the data sheets give white spirit, solvent naphtha or a 1:1 mix. In every case use no more than 10% of the paint volume. Can it thin water-based paint?
No, water-based paints are not on its list. Acrylic and latex paints are thinned with water, as their data sheets say.How much should go into the enamel?
Add it a little at a time, stirring hard, until the paint reaches the right consistency. The data sheets for POLIFARB alkyd enamels set the limit at 10% by volume. Can it be used to degrease a surface?
Yes, it degreases various surfaces and cleans tools, applied with a rag soaked in it. Work at +5 to +35 °C.Will it remove dried enamel?
The data sheet covers cleaning tools and equipment after painting. It says nothing about dissolving dried paint.
