Description

FASAD ULTRA is a water-dispersion acrylic paint for facades as well as interior walls and ceilings. It suits concrete, plasterboard, chipboard and MDF, cement and synthetic render, wallpaper, brick, stone and wood.

Who it is for

A working choice for large areas, where the budget is counted per wall rather than per square metre. Outbuildings, a garage, a fence, a rear elevation, utility rooms, a summer house, a property being prepared for sale, wherever a tidy matt finish with decent weather resistance matters more than maximum service life.

Why 8 years and not 15

The declared facade protection is over 8 years. That follows directly from the formulation: an acrylic binder costs less than silicone and resists ultraviolet and freeze cycles less well. On a south elevation in direct sun the gap against premium paints shows sooner than on a north one.

Wash resistance

Wet-scrub resistance is class 3 under DSTU EN 13300, the middle of the five-point scale. The painted surface can be washed no earlier than 7 days after application. Plinths, the area around a door and walls that actually get washed call for a class 1 paint.

Over an existing coating

The paint can go over wallpaper and walls already painted with acrylic, and over decorative renders being refreshed, including facades with external insulation.

Matt 3 and the geometry of the wall

Sheen level 3 gives an even matt surface with no glare. On a facade that helps: low sun at dawn and dusk does not light up render joints, float marks and dips in the plane the way a satin finish would.

Consumption and limitations

180–220 g/m² per coat on non-absorbent substrates and 220–260 g/m² on absorbent ones is more than the premium facade paints use, so part of the saving on the tub is eaten by consumption. Work the volume out in advance. Apply 2 coats with 2 hours’ drying between them; hiding power is class 2. Fresh plaster can be painted only after 3–4 weeks, concrete after a month. The paint is not compatible with sand-cement renders whose pH is above 10 at the time of application. The paint is white, with a transparent base (TR); tinted in POLIFARB Color System and with COLOR MIX pastes.

How much you need

The tin states 76 m² for 14 kg. That is one coat. The figures below are for two coats at 200 g/m².

  • 1.4 kg covers about 3.5 m²: touch-ups;
  • 4.2 kg covers about 10 m²: a gable or an extension wall;
  • 7 kg covers about 17 m²: a garage wall;
  • 14 kg covers about 35 m²: the facade of a small building.

Application

Preparing the substrate

  • the substrate is dry, sound and clean: free of dust, efflorescence, grease and flaking coatings;
  • fresh render needs at least 28 days;
  • cracks are opened up and filled with a repair compound;
  • absorbent substrates are primed: PROFI GRUNT.

The weather window

  • air, substrate and paint temperature: +5…+30 °C, ideally +10…+25 °C;
  • air humidity 80 % or below;
  • no rain or snow during the work and for 24 hours after;
  • do not paint in direct sun, on a hot wall or in strong wind.

Thinning and tools

  • thinning is usually unnecessary: the paint is ready after stirring;
  • if needed, up to 5–10 % water for the first coat or for spraying;
  • roller, brush for abutments, spray gun for large areas.

Coats and drying

  • 2 coats: one gives an uneven tone and shortens the coating's life;
  • between coats: 1–2 hours;
  • fully dry: 24 hours;
  • the coating reaches full strength over 7–28 days.

After the job

  • rinse tools with water straight away;
  • store tightly closed at +5…+30 °C, do not freeze.

FAQ: service life, cleaning and consumption

  • How does it differ from UNIVERSAL FASAD?
    They are used for the same jobs. FASAD ULTRA has a stated facade life of over 8 years against over 12, wash resistance class 3 against 2, hiding power class 2 against 1, and medium water permeability (W2) against low (W3).

  • Can it be used indoors?
    Yes, it is also meant for interior ceilings and walls.

  • Can it go on cement render?
    Yes, cement render is on the substrate list. Fresh render is painted after 3–4 weeks and concrete after a month, once primed. The paint is not compatible with sand-cement renders above pH 10 at the time of application.

  • How much paint for a 6×4 m garage?
    2.5 m walls come to about 50 m². Two coats take 18–22 kg on a non-absorbent surface and 22–26 kg on an absorbent one: two 14 kg tubs.

  • What temperature can I paint at?
    +5 to +30 °C, ideally +18 to +25 °C at up to 60% humidity. Two coats go on with 2 hours' drying between them.
