Description

SILIKON FASAD is a silicone water-dispersion paint for first-time and repair painting of facades. It goes over rendered, concrete, stone, brick and aerated-concrete surfaces and silicate brick.

Vapour out, water off

The silicone binder solves what ordinary acrylic cannot: the film passes water vapour from inside the wall while repelling rain from outside. Moisture leaves the structure instead of freezing inside the render in winter and tearing the coating off in sheets.

Insulation systems and mineral wool

That is why this paint goes on facades insulated with mineral wool: the insulation has to dry outwards, and sealing it under an impermeable layer ruins the whole system. The same logic applies to historic buildings and listed architecture, where walls must breathe, and to seaside sites with constant damp and salt in the air.

How long it lasts and how to clean it

The declared facade protection is over 15 years. The coating can be washed with detergent, so a facade by a road, or a plinth, is cleaned rather than repainted.

Indoor use

The paint may also go on interior walls where high vapour permeability is needed.

Consumption on different substrates

The data sheet gives 150–200 g/m² per coat on non-absorbent substrates and 180–220 g/m² on absorbent ones. Smooth concrete and a previously painted wall sit at the low end; fresh mineral render, aerated concrete and silicate brick sit at the high end because they drink the first coat. A primer evens that out and pays for itself on a large facade.

Colour and limitations

The paint is white, with a transparent base (TR); tinted in POLIFARB Color System and with COLOR MIX pastes. Metal is painted only after an anti-corrosion primer. Fresh plaster can be painted only after 3–4 weeks, concrete after a month. The paint is not compatible with sand-cement renders whose pH is above 10 at the time of application. Apply 2 coats with 2 hours’ drying between them; the coating can be washed no earlier than 7 days after application.

How much you need

The tin states 93 m² for 14 kg. That is one coat. The figures below are for two coats at 175 g/m².

  • 1.4 kg covers about 4 m²: a porch plinth or touch-ups;

  • 4.2 kg covers about 12 m²: a gable;

  • 7 kg covers about 20 m²: one wall of a small house;

  • 14 kg covers about 40 m²: the facade of a single-storey house.

Application

Preparing the substrate

  • the substrate is dry, sound and clean: free of dust, efflorescence, grease and flaking coatings;

  • fresh render needs at least 28 days;

  • cracks are opened up and filled with a repair compound;

  • absorbent substrates are primed: PROFI GRUNT.

The weather window

  • air, substrate and paint temperature: +5…+30 °C, ideally +10…+25 °C;

  • air humidity 80 % or below;

  • no rain or snow during the work and for 24 hours after;

  • do not paint in direct sun, on a hot wall or in strong wind.

Thinning and tools

  • thinning is usually unnecessary: the paint is ready after stirring;

  • if needed, up to 5–10 % water for the first coat or for spraying;

  • roller, brush for abutments, spray gun for large areas.

Coats and drying

  • 2 coats: the first works as a primer coat, the second gives the protection;

  • between coats: 1–2 hours;

  • fully dry: 24 hours;

  • the coating reaches full strength over 7–28 days.

After the job

  • rinse tools with water straight away;

  • store tightly closed at +5…+30 °C, do not freeze.

FAQ: permeability, insulation and weather

  • Why choose silicone over acrylic on a facade?
    It combines high vapour permeability (class V1) with low water permeability (W3): the wall lets vapour out while rain stays outside. Stated facade life is over 15 years. Acrylic UNIVERSAL FASAD has medium vapour permeability, class V2.

  • Can it go on a facade insulated with mineral wool?
    Yes, the data sheet names insulation systems directly, especially those with mineral wool.

  • Can silicone facade paint be used indoors?
    Yes, but only where high vapour permeability is needed. Facades are its main use.

  • Can it go on cement render and aerated concrete?
    Yes, rendered, concrete, aerated concrete and brick facades are on the substrate list. Fresh render is painted after 3–4 weeks and concrete after a month, once primed. The paint is not compatible with sand-cement renders above pH 10 at the time of application.

  • How much paint for an 8×10 m house?
    3 m walls come to about 108 m² after openings. Two coats take 32–43 kg on a non-absorbent surface and 39–48 kg on an absorbent one: three to four 14 kg tubs.

  • Can the painted facade be washed?
    Yes, with detergents, but no sooner than 7 days after painting.
