Description

UNIVERSAL FASAD is a water-dispersion acrylic paint for facades as well as interior walls and ceilings. It goes over concrete, plasterboard, chipboard and MDF, cement and synthetic render, wallpaper, brick, stone and wood.

One paint for the house and the facade

The main advantage is practical: one tub covers both the outside walls and the inside ones. No working out two materials, matching two shades to one house or storing leftovers of two different paints. For an extension, a garage, a terrace or a veranda, where the line between outdoors and indoors is notional, it removes the choice entirely.

Wash resistance and hiding power

Wet-scrub resistance is class 2 under DSTU EN 13300. The coating may be washed with detergent, so a plinth, a wall by the road or the area around a door gets cleaned instead of repainted. Hiding power is class 1. Apply 2 coats with 2 hours’ drying between them; consumption per coat is 160–190 g/m² on non-absorbent substrates and 180–220 g/m² on absorbent ones. The painted surface can be washed no earlier than 7 days after application.

Over an existing coating

The paint can go over wallpaper and walls already painted with acrylic, and over decorative renders being refreshed: including facades with external insulation. That saves stripping the old layer wherever it is still sound.

How long it lasts

The declared facade protection is over 12 years. The finish is smooth matt at sheen level 3, with high weather and wear resistance.

When a specialised paint is the answer

Versatility has limits. If the facade is insulated with mineral wool, or the building is old and its walls must dry outwards, a silicone paint with higher vapour permeability is the right call. If the job is a roof, galvanised steel or downpipes, rubber paint covers metal and slate (galvanised steel over GF-021 primer). Everywhere else the universal one does the whole job.

Colour and limitations

The base colour is white, with a TR base for saturated shades; tinted in POLIFARB Color System and with COLOR MIX pastes. Metal is painted only after an anti-corrosion primer. Fresh plaster can be painted only after 3–4 weeks, concrete after a month. The paint is not compatible with sand-cement renders whose pH is above 10 at the time of application.

How much you need

The tin states 87 m² for 14 kg. That is one coat. The figures below are for two coats at 175 g/m².

  • 1.4 kg covers about 4 m²: touch-ups or a test;

  • 4.2 kg covers about 12 m²: a gable or one room;

  • 7 kg covers about 20 m²: a garage wall;

  • 14 kg covers about 40 m²: the facade of a single-storey house.

Application

Preparing the substrate

  • the substrate is dry, sound and clean: free of dust, efflorescence, grease and flaking coatings;

  • fresh render needs at least 28 days;

  • cracks are opened up and filled with a repair compound;

  • absorbent substrates are primed: PROFI GRUNT.

The weather window

  • air, substrate and paint temperature: +5…+30 °C, ideally +10…+25 °C;

  • air humidity 80 % or below;

  • no rain or snow during the work and for 24 hours after;

  • do not paint in direct sun, on a hot wall or in strong wind.

Thinning and tools

  • thinning is usually unnecessary: the paint is ready after stirring;

  • if needed, up to 5–10 % water for the first coat or for spraying;

  • roller, brush for abutments, spray gun for large areas.

Coats and drying

  • 2 coats: the declared protection assumes them;

  • between coats: 1–2 hours;

  • fully dry: 24 hours;

  • the coating reaches full strength over 7–28 days.

After the job

  • rinse tools with water straight away;

  • store tightly closed at +5…+30 °C, do not freeze.

FAQ: facade, interior and cleaning

  • Can this facade paint be used indoors?
    Yes, UNIVERSAL FASAD is meant for facades as well as interior walls and ceilings. It gives a smooth matt finish with class 2 wash resistance.

  • Can it go on cement render?
    Yes, cement render is on the substrate list. Fresh render is painted after 3–4 weeks and concrete after a month, once primed. The paint is not compatible with sand-cement renders above pH 10 at the time of application.

  • Can it go over old acrylic paint?
    Yes, if it is sound: such a coating only needs washing with water and detergent. It also goes over wallpaper and is used to refresh decorative plasters.

  • How much paint for an 8×10 m house?
    3 m walls come to about 108 m² after openings. Two coats take 39–48 kg on an absorbent substrate and 35–41 kg on a non-absorbent one: three to four 14 kg tubs.

  • How does it differ from silicone facade paint?
    SILIKON FASAD has higher vapour permeability (class V1 against V2) and a stated facade life of over 15 years against over 12. Its data sheet singles out insulation systems with mineral wool. UNIVERSAL FASAD also works on interior walls and ceilings.

  • What temperature can I paint at?
    +5 to +30 °C, ideally +18 to +25 °C at up to 60% humidity. Two coats go on with 2 hours' drying between them.
