Description

EKOFARBA is a water-dispersion acrylic paint from the STANDARD line for interior walls and ceilings. It goes over any mineral substrate (plaster, filler, brick, concrete) as well as gypsum and wooden surfaces. Metal primed with DEKOMAL GF-021 or EXTRAMAL GF-021 can also be painted.

Dry scrubbing, not washing

The key figure here is 500 dry-scrub cycles. That is not the same as a wet-cleaning class: the surface can be brushed down or wiped with a barely damp cloth, but it is not meant for regular washing with detergent. Kitchens and hallways call for a paint with a wash class; for a bedroom or a living room this margin is enough. The limit is easy to check: a dry cloth leaves no mark on the wall, while a damp one pressed hard can lift a little colour.

Deep matt and hairline cracks

Sheen level 2 gives a deep matt surface with no reflection at all. Combined with high filling, it hides hairline cracks and small plaster defects: the wall reads as flat even where the substrate was not prepared perfectly.

Economy

The paint is thick and spreads easily with a roller, so it lays down in a thin even coat without waste. Consumption per coat is 170–220 g/m² on non-absorbent substrates and 200–240 g/m² on absorbent ones; hiding power class 3 to DSTU EN 13300. It is the most affordable of the POLIFARB interior paints when there is a lot to cover: a rental flat, a summer house, utility rooms.

Where to use it

Bedrooms, living rooms, children's rooms, offices, educational buildings, back-of-house and technical rooms in food and industrial plants: anywhere the surface is not washed regularly but an even matt finish is wanted. Ceilings suit it especially well: deep matt does not show trowel marks.

Colour

The base colour is white, tinted in POLIFARB Color System to pastel shades and with COLOR MIX pigment pastes. Deep saturated tones are not made on this base.

Limitations and shelf life

Interior use only. Not for areas of direct water contact and not for surfaces that need washing with detergent. Fresh plaster can be painted after 3–4 weeks, concrete after a month; prime first with GRUNT EKO, PROFI GRUNT or GRUNT CONCENTRATE 1:4. Apply in 2 coats with 2 hours between coats at +5…+30 °C (optimum +18…+25 °C at humidity up to 60%). Shelf life is 12 months, so leftovers are not kept for the next season.

How much you need

The tin states 82 m² for 14 kg. That is one coat. The figures below are for two coats at 195 g/m².

  • 1.4 kg covers about 3.6 m²: touch-ups;

  • 4.2 kg covers about 11 m²: one wall;

  • 7 kg covers about 18 m²: a room ceiling;

  • 14 kg covers about 36 m²: a 12–14 m² room, start to finish.

Application

Preparing the substrate

  • the substrate is dry, clean and sound: free of dust, grease and flaking coatings;

  • old chalk, whitewash and glue-bound paints are removed completely;

  • fresh plaster needs at least 28 days;

  • plasterboard joints are filled;

  • absorbent and chalky substrates are primed: GRUNT EKO.

Thinning

  • usually unnecessary: the paint is ready after stirring;

  • if needed, up to 5–10 % water for the first coat or for spraying;

  • stir with a drill and paddle at low revs.

Application conditions

  • air, substrate and paint temperature: +5…+30 °C;

  • humidity 80 % or below;

  • do not apply in sun, on hot surfaces, in wind or draughts.

Tools

  • a roller is the main tool;

  • a brush for corners and abutments;

  • a spray gun for large areas.

Coats and drying

  • 2 coats: fewer will not give an even tone;

  • a coat dries in up to 2 hours, with 1–2 hours between coats;

  • fully dry: 24 hours;

  • the coating reaches full resistance over 7–28 days: leave the surface unwashed for the first month.

After the job

  • rinse tools with water straight away;

  • store tightly closed at +5…+30 °C, do not freeze.

FAQ: scrubbing, colour and consumption

  • Can the painted wall be washed?
    Only brushed down or wiped with a barely damp cloth. The stated figure is 500 dry-scrub cycles; this paint carries no wet-cleaning class.

  • Is it suitable for a kitchen?
    For the ceiling and the far walls, yes. Above a hob or a sink, choose a paint with a wash class.

  • Will it hide cracks?
    Hairline cracks and small plaster defects yes, thanks to the deep matt and the filling. Cracks that are still opening must be filled first.

  • What colours can it be tinted to?
    Pastels in POLIFARB Color System and with COLOR MIX pastes. Deep saturated tones are not available on this base.

  • How much paint for a 14 m² room?
    Walls 2.7 m high give about 40 m², two coats need ~16 kg: one 14 kg tub plus a 4.2 kg one.
