Description

Acrylic 7-in-1 primer-enamel for radiators and metal surfaces is a water-dispersion coating that works as primer and topcoat at once. Satin matt, for interior and exterior work.

Why radiators in particular

Heat resistance to +80 °C is the whole reason this enamel exists. Ordinary acrylic on a hot radiator yellows and eventually cracks, while alkyd also gives off a smell every time the heating comes on. Here the film is built for a radiator's working temperature and holds it season after season.

Odourless, so nobody has to move out

The formulation is water-dispersion and carries no sharp smell, so radiators can be painted in an occupied room without sending the family away for the weekend or opening windows onto a frost. With alkyd enamel that is not an option.

Half an hour per coat

Drying takes 30 minutes. By comparison, alkyd PF-115 needs up to a day. A radiator gets two coats in a morning and the heating goes back on the same day.

Seven functions in one

The primer protects and levels the surface, the enamel gives the decorative finish: no separate priming needed. It goes directly over rust once the loose layer is off. Declared protection is 12 years, and the coating is weather- and UV-resistant, so it suits outdoor metal too.

How to apply

Film thickness 0.25 mm. A thinner film will not deliver the declared protection; a thicker one takes longer to reach full strength. Tools wash with water.

Application

Preparing the surface

  • remove loose rust, scale and flaking old coating;
  • degrease the surface;
  • no primer needed: this is primer and topcoat in one.

Application

  • apply by brush, roller or spray;
  • film thickness 0.25 mm;
  • paint a radiator cold: on a hot one the film blisters;
  • dries in 30 minutes, so the next coat follows almost immediately.

After the job

  • rinse tools with water straight away: this is a water-dispersion paint;
  • store above freezing, do not let it freeze.

FAQ: heat, smell and drying

  • Can a warm radiator be painted?
    No. Shut the radiator off and wait for it to cool, as with any radiator painting. The enamel takes heat up to +80 °C once it has dried.

  • Can radiators be painted during the heating season?
    Yes. A coat dries in 30 minutes, so two coats fit into a morning and the heating can go back on the same day.

  • Will a white radiator turn yellow?
    The enamel is rated for heat up to +80 °C, a radiator's working temperature, and holds up season after season.

  • Can a radiator be painted with ordinary emulsion?
    Better not: an ordinary acrylic finish yellows and eventually cracks on a hot radiator. For radiators use this primer-enamel, rated to +80 °C.

  • Is a primer needed?
    No, primer and enamel are in one product. It goes straight over rust once the loose layer is off.

  • Does it smell strongly?
    It is water-based with no harsh odour, so radiators can be painted in a lived-in room.

  • What cleans the tools?
    Water, straight after the job.
