DEKOLUX is a premium alkyd-urethane enamel for protecting primed wood and wood-based surfaces, metal and other substrates.
The urethane component makes the film far harder than plain alkyd. The coating takes mechanical load where an ordinary enamel wears through: machinery, equipment, handrails, gates. The declared protection is over 10 years.
A coat dries in 3 hours against 24 for alkyd PF-115. The second coat goes on once the first is fully dry, no sooner than 5 hours later, so two coats fit into one day. The film reaches full hardness after 7 days.
30–60 g/m² per coat is a third of what floor enamels use and half of EXTRAMAL PF-115.
Steelwork, agricultural machinery, freight vehicles, railway carriages: anywhere the coating has to take weather and wear and still look right. The enamel holds both its colour and its gloss instead of dulling in the first season.
A ready range of 14 shades, from cream and yellow to dark green and black, tintable with COLOR MIX pastes. Sheen: high gloss. Thinned with white spirit, solvent naphtha or a 1:1 mix of the two, no more than 10% by volume. Bare wood is primed with Drevozakhyst impregnant or drying oil, unprotected metal with DEKOMAL GF-021; let the primer dry at least 24 hours before the enamel. Blast-cleaned metal should be painted within 8–10 hours of cleaning. Apply 1–2 coats at air and substrate temperature of +5…+30 °C and relative humidity up to 60%. The enamel is flammable: ventilate and keep away from open flame. Shelf life 24 months.
How much you need
45 g/m² per coat over two coats: 90 g/m² in total, the lowest consumption among the enamels in this category.
700 g covers about 8 m²: a gate, handrails, a small structure;
2 kg covers about 22 m²: a garage interior or a trailer body;
16 kg covers about 175 m²: farm machinery or a batch of steelwork.
Application
Preparing the surface
strip metal of rust, scale and flaking old coating;
sand and dust off timber;
prime the surface: the enamel is meant for primed substrates;
degrease with white spirit or solvent.
Thinning
thin with white spirit to working viscosity if needed;
more for spraying, barely any for brushwork;
stir thoroughly before use.
Application
apply by brush, roller or spray;
1–2 coats depending on how contrasting the substrate is;
a coat dries in up to 3 hours: the second goes on the same day.
After the job
clean tools with white spirit straight away;
store tightly closed away from flame;
shelf life 24 months.
FAQ: hardness, consumption and substrates
How does it differ from ordinary PF enamel?
The urethane component: a harder film, 3 hours to dry instead of a day, over 10 years of service instead of 4–5, and half the consumption.
Can it go straight over rust?
No, this enamel needs a primed surface. For bare rust use the "Zahyst 3 v 1" primer-enamel.
How much for a 3×2 m gate?
Both sides come to 12 m²; two coats need about 1.1 kg, so a 2 kg tin with a margin.
What thins it and cleans the tools?
White spirit. Alkyd-urethane enamel does not thin with water.
Does the colour fade in the sun?
The enamel holds its colour and gloss for a long time: that is one of its declared properties.
