Description

Liquid Nails is a waterproof one-component acrylic dispersion adhesive for repair and assembly work indoors and out.

White or clear

Two versions of one product. White holds 1000 kg/m² in 0.2 and 0.4 kg tubes and suits joints that will be covered anyway. Clear holds 800 kg/m² in 0.15 and 0.28 kg tubes and is for joints that stay in sight: glass, mirrors, pale trim.

Thixotropy and cure

It does not sag on a vertical face. Full polymerisation takes 48 hours, which is when the joint reaches its rated load.

Instead of a drill

Skirting, thresholds, mouldings, PVC panels, polystyrene items, mineral wool, tile, stone and timber onto concrete, brick, OSB, plasterboard, metal and render.

Working conditions

Apply at +5 to +35 °C on a dry, degreased surface. In service -40 to +80 °C. Consumption 0.25–1 kg/m². Clean with water while fresh. Shelf life 18 months.

How much you need

Count tubes by running metres of bead. A Ø3 mm bead gives about 25 m from a 0.4 kg tube and about 12 m from a 0.2 kg tube.

  • 0.15 kg (clear): a mirror or glass shelf;
  • 0.2 kg (white): thresholds and a few mouldings;
  • 0.28 kg (clear): a visible perimeter joint;
  • 0.4 kg (white): skirting around a 4×5 m room.

Ø20 mm spots on a 150×150 mm grid work out at about 0.25 kg/m²; a full bed reaches 1 kg/m².

Application

Preparation

  • clean both faces of dust, grease and old coatings;
  • consolidate friable substrates with primer;
  • degrease smooth metal and plastic; prime metal.

Application

  • cut the nozzle and load the tube into a gun;
  • long pieces: a continuous Ø3 mm bead;
  • panels: Ø20 mm spots on a 150×150 mm grid;
  • insulation boards: perimeter bead plus inner spots.

Fixing

  • press home, or pull off and re-seat after 2–3 minutes for better grab;
  • support heavy items mechanically for a few hours;
  • full cure 48 hours.

Afterwards

  • wipe squeeze-out with a damp cloth at once;
  • cap the nozzle;
  • store above freezing.

FAQ: white or clear, load and time

  • White or clear?
    Clear where the joint shows; white where it is covered: white holds 1000 kg/m² against 800.

  • How does it differ from silicone sealant?
    It is an adhesive, not a sealant: it holds parts but is not for moving joints or watertight sealing.

  • On a painted wall?
    Only as well as the paint holds. Remove limewash and flaking paint.

  • Time before loading?
    48 hours for full cure.

  • Outdoors?
    Yes, down to -40 °C in service, but apply at +5 °C or warmer.
