7-in-1 primer-enamel is a water-based acrylic enamel that works as both primer and topcoat, so metal, wood or concrete need no separate primer. A coat dries in 30 minutes, there is no strong odour, and it goes straight over rust once the loose layer is removed. POLIFARB makes two versions: one for wood, metal and concrete, and one for radiators and metal. Here is how they differ and how to use them.
What "7 in 1" means
One can covers jobs that usually need several products:
- a primer that levels the surface and bonds to the substrate;
- anti-corrosion protection for metal;
- application over rust after removing the loose layer;
- protection of wood against fungus and mould;
- frost-resistant additives;
- weather and UV resistance;
- a decorative silky-matte topcoat.
Instead of four or five cans and several drying cycles you get one can and two coats.

For wood, metal and concrete
The 7-in-1 acrylic primer-enamel for wood, metal and concrete suits a site with wooden handrails, metal posts and a concrete plinth side by side: no need for three cans and matching shades between them. Clear Color technology keeps the colour, so a white door frame or window sill does not turn cream after a few years. It is used on benches, gazebos, fences, concrete posts and OSB boards.
For radiators and metal
The 7-in-1 acrylic primer-enamel for radiators and metal surfaces is designed for radiator operating temperatures up to +80 °C: it does not yellow or crack from heat. With no strong odour, radiators can be painted in a living room without opening windows in freezing weather. Two coats fit into one morning, and the heating can go back on the same day.
How to apply 7-in-1 primer-enamel
- Clean off dirt and dust. On metal, remove loose rust and flaking paint; firm rust can stay.
- Degrease metal; sand and dust wood.
- Stir the enamel. No thinning is needed.
- Apply the first coat by brush or roller at about 0.25 mm: a thinner coat does not give the declared protection, a thicker one takes longer to harden.
- After 30 minutes, apply the second coat.
- Wash tools with water immediately after work.
The painted item can be used the next day; the coating reaches full hardness in about a week. Once fully dry, the surface can be washed and dirt comes off easily. Approximate consumption is 120–180 g/m² per coat; the paint consumption calculator will give the exact amount for your area.
Colours
Ready-made colours include high-whiteness white, light grey, graphite, chocolate brown, sea green, black and others. The white base can be tinted to pastel shades.
7-in-1 primer-enamel or alkyd enamel
Parameter | 7-in-1 primer-enamel | Alkyd and alkyd-urethane enamels |
|---|---|---|
Base | water | organic solvent |
Odour | no strong odour | strong until dry |
Coat drying | 30 min | 2 h (Zahyst 3in1), up to 24 h (PF-115) |
Tool cleaning | water | solvent |
Finish | silky matte | gloss or hammer texture |
If you need gloss, look at Zahyst 3in1 alkyd-urethane primer-enamel (see the 3-in-1 paint guide) or the classic DEKOMAL PF-115 alkyd enamel. Galvanized steel is first primed with DEKOMAL GF-021 alkyd primer and only then painted with PF-115; Zahyst 3in1 is not suitable for galvanized steel. The difference between water-based paints and enamels is explained in enamel vs paint.
What to buy
For a country house, fence, gazebo, window sills and door frames, take the wood, metal and concrete version. For heating radiators and metal in living rooms, take the radiator version. If you are painting a wooden fence, first read how to protect it from rot.
