DEKOLUX enamel for wood and metal: a finish that lasts over 10 years

DEKOLUX alkyd-urethane enamel: extra-hard gloss film, 3 hours per coat, 30–60 g/m² and over 10 years of protection. Comparison with PF-115, priming and application.

An enamel for wood and metal lasts when the film is hard and the substrate is properly prepared: metal primed, wood treated with an antiseptic. DEKOLUX alkyd-urethane enamel handles the material side: urethane makes the film much harder than ordinary alkyd, and declared protection is over 10 years. Below: what it offers, where it is used and how to apply it.

What DEKOLUX is

DEKOLUX is a premium alkyd-urethane enamel for protecting primed wood and wood-based surfaces, metal and other substrates, indoors and outdoors. It dries to an extra-hard gloss finish with a deep shine.

Film hardness

The urethane component gives a coating that takes mechanical wear where plain enamel rubs off: machinery, equipment, handrails, gates. The declared protection is over 10 years.

Three hours per coat

A coat of DEKOLUX dries in 3 hours and the second coat can go on after at least 5 hours, so two coats fit into one working day. With DEKOMAL PF-115 alkyd enamel, the second coat goes on once the first is fully dry, but no later than 24 hours.

Low consumption

At 30–60 g/m² per coat and with high hiding power, a 2 kg can covers an area that would take 4–5 kg of ordinary enamel. The paint consumption calculator will work out the amount for your area.

Colour and gloss

A ready-made range of 14 shades, from cream and yellow to dark green and black, tintable with COLOR MIX pastes. The enamel keeps its colour and gloss for a long time and does not dull in the first season. The deep shine visually evens out minor surface flaws.

Where to use it

  • Metal: steel structures, wrought ironwork, gates, fences, pipes, farm machinery, trucks, railway wagons.
  • Wood: window frames, doors, garden furniture, gazebos, facade elements, on primed wood.

How to apply DEKOLUX

  1. Preparation. Remove dust, grease and flaking old paint. Remove rust from metal mechanically and degrease. ROZCHYNNYK 3 in 1 organic solvent works for degreasing and tool cleaning.
  2. Priming metal. Apply DEKOMAL GF-021 anti-corrosion alkyd primer: one coat, 60–100 g/m², dries in 6 hours. Let the primer dry for at least 24 hours before applying DEKOLUX.
  3. Preparing wood. Treat the wood with an antiseptic such as DREVOZAHIST IMPREGNAT wood preservative and let it dry fully.
  4. Thinning. If needed, bring the enamel to working viscosity with white spirit.
  5. Application. Brush, roller or spray, 2 coats; the second only once the first is fully dry, at least 5 hours later.
  6. Conditions. Work at +5 to +30 °C.

What to buy

For metal: DEKOMAL GF-021 primer and two coats of DEKOLUX. For wood: IMPREGNAT antiseptic with DEKOLUX on top. To compare DEKOLUX with other grades, see our article on alkyd enamels; step-by-step preparation for specific jobs is in how to paint metal gates and how to paint a wooden fence.
